The Hungarian-Turkish Cultural Year has been a remarkable success, with over 160 cultural, arts, and science programs held in 17 cities across Türkiye.
The initiative, which involved around 60 Hungarian institutions, concluded with a gala event in Budapest. As Minister of Culture and Innovation Balázs Hankó noted, “this season has been the largest and most successful cultural program ever organized.”
The cultural year also saw significant engagement, with more than one million Hungarian spectators attending events in Türkiye.
These included 110 events in Hungary organized by Türkiye, featuring 1,000 Turkish artists, craftsmen, and experts.
The cultural exchange not only promoted mutual understanding but also boosted tourism, with a 15% increase in Turkish visitors to Hungary during the first 10 months of 2024.
One of the most important outcomes of the cultural year was raising the visibility of Hungarian culture in Türkiye. The politician highlighted,
this program allowed us to showcase Hungary’s deep cultural roots while fostering broader cooperation beyond culture.”
This visibility sets the stage for future economic and political collaboration between the two nations.
Looking ahead, despite the conclusion of the cultural year, both countries are committed to continued cooperation. Hungary and Türkiye plan to launch a Year of Innovation in 2025, ensuring that the momentum from this cultural season carries forward.
The cultural year not only forged stronger ties but also laid the groundwork for long-term relations.
The season has not only built bridges but has also planted the seeds for future collaboration that will shape Turkish-Hungarian cultural relations for years to come,” Hankó said.
This successful initiative has undoubtedly opened new doors for cooperation, ensuring a lasting partnership between the two countries.
