The EU Needs to Find Its Way Back to Credibility, Warns MEP

MTI-Hungary Today 2023.09.14.

The Brussels elite has failed badly, stated Fidesz MEP Balázs Hidvéghi this Wednesday on his social media page, also sharing his speech given in Strasbourg.

In the post, the politician wrote that in recent years, the EU leadership has shown a “cringe-worthy” corruption scandal, incessant attacks on right-wing governments, and a completely “blatant” sanctions policy that harms basically everyone except Russia. But one thing that has been missing was competent and calm leadership, he added, stressing the need for a right-wing turn in Brussels.
In a video shared on his social media page of his speech to the European Parliament, Hidvéghi said that Brexit, illegal migration, the coronavirus epidemic, the war in Ukraine, and the subsequent economic crisis all require competent leadership and appropriate decisions.

Instead, we see hasty reactions, pompous, self-righteous statements, and a consequent loss of credibility,

he pointed out.

The pointless centralization efforts in Brussels in all policy areas, or the “shameful ideological jihad” against conservative governments, are all leading to divisions and weakening Europe, he stressed.
The Fidesz MEP also noted that the huge corruption scandal in the European Parliament and the scandalous purchase of vaccines by the European Commission must be dealt with in an honest way. He added that

in the latter case, the text messages of Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, have been expected to be made public for more than 863 days.

The MEP also criticized the intolerably slow disbursement of reconstruction funds to Member States and the failed sanctions policy, which has not really helped Ukraine, or brought the end of the war closer, but is damaging the European economy and the European people.
Europe needs to find its way back to unity and credibility by first accepting itself as an alliance of free Member States and then defining its own strategic interests in the world, Hidvéghi concluded.
