The Country’s Newest Sports Arena Will Soon Open in Székesfehérvár

Hungary Today 2023.11.06.

The Alba Arena will be the future home of the Hydro Fehérvár AV19 ice hockey team from Székesfehérvár (Central Transdanubia), playing in the Austrian top league, and will also serve as an event and community center. It will be able to accommodate up to 6,000 spectators at times, reports Magyar Nemzet.

“The Alba Arena is a much deserved and much needed facility for Székesfehérvár, as it will open up opportunities for sports, conferences, music concerts, and other events that are worthy of our town and agglomeration, and are essential if Székesfehérvár is to become a great city,” András Cser-Palkovics, mayor of Székesfehérvár, wrote on his social media site in connection with the construction of the sports facility.

The Alba Arena will be the future home of the Hydro Fehérvár AV19 ice hockey team, playing in the Austrian top league, and will also serve as an event and community center.

In addition to the sport of ice hockey in Székesfehérvár and Hungary, it will also be able to host 20-25 indoor sports, and will be able to accommodate up to 6,000 spectators at times.

The hall can accommodate up to 6,000 people for ice hockey matches and up to 8,000 for concerts and other events.

As Magyar Építők noted, Market Építő Zrt. has been building the facility for almost two years now, and the exterior of the building has already been largely completed: the spectacular roofing elements, among others, were put in place this summer. A number of KÉSZ Group companies and strategic partners have played a major role in the work: they have been contracted to design, manufacture, and install the steel roof structure and the special sheet cladding. Market’s subsidiary Moratus Kft. played a key role in the structural works, while HBM Kft. was responsible for the complex civil engineering works. The building was designed by architects Attila Tamás Tarnóczky and Mihály Balázs.

Work on the interior is currently in full swing, with the planned handover at the end of 2023.

The contractors have already announced that gas will not be introduced into the arena, but that heat pumps will be used to ensure the right temperature inside. Although electricity is needed to operate them, the lower level of the facility and the pitch are located below ground level and are therefore recessed, significantly reducing the costs of cooling and heating.

The construction cost of the Alba Arena was estimated at HUF 25 billion (EUR 65.8 million) net in the 2018 tender, but later, in 2021,

the EU procurement notice indicated a value of more than HUF 35 billion (EUR 92 million).
