The Coldest Period of Winter Can Come This Week

Generally sunny but cold winter weather is expected this week, with no precipitation. Daytime highs will be around 0 degrees Celsius at the start of the week, with daytime highs slowly rising from mid-week, reaching 3 to 8 degrees Celsius by early afternoon on Sunday.

Overnight lows are expected to be between minus 10 and minus 5 degrees Celsius throughout the week, with colder temperatures in frost-prone areas.

On Tuesday at dawn, -14.5 degrees were also recorded in the northern part of the country.

Sunday night was the coldest night so far this year, with temperatures dropping below -10 degrees Celsius in several places, and in the northern county of Nógrád, in Etes, the air cooled to -13.4 degrees Celsius. Thanks to the freezing weather and calming winds, ice began to form on Hungarian lakes, and by morning Lake Balaton has also begun to freeze, Index reports.
