The Budapest Declaration on Competitiveness Could Be a Turning Point

MTI-Hungary Today 2024.11.14.

The year, as a whole, shows that a new economic policy is needed; a policy of economic neutrality will eliminate the dependencies that are currently hampering Hungarian growth, Minister responsible for the Prime Minister’s Office, Gergely Gulyás, said at the government press conference on Wednesday.

Gergely Gulyás recalled that Hungary held the largest summit in its history in Budapest last week. “Hungary organized a successful summit and the adopted declaration on competitiveness is tangible proof of this, with the potential to bring a turnaround,” he said. Speaking about the Budapest Declaration on the New Competitiveness Deal adopted at last week’s EPC summit, the minister noted that

it is important to have initiatives from Member States that serve the interests of Europe as a whole, and the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union provides an opportunity to do so.

Gulyás also pointed out that it is in Europe’s interest to have peace, and the US presidential election itself has brought the need to talk about peace. “The United States is now moving from being a party of war to a party of peace,” he said.

The politician stressed that

we can realistically expect that peace in Europe will be achieved next year;” that in itself will allow Europe, including Hungary, to spend more money on economic development, wage increases, home creation, and family support.

“The 2025 budget will already be the budget for the government’s new economic policy,” he underlined. Next year, the government will double the tax allowances for families raising children, while maintaining the student loan, introducing a work loan, new home creation, and housing subsidies. In addition, under the Demján Sándor Program, the government will be able to help Hungarian small and medium-sized enterprises with “unprecedented means and to an unprecedented extent,” the minister said. He also pointed out that the 2025 budget contains the necessary guarantees for the 21-point economic action plan.

Government spokesperson Eszter Vitályos noted that the new BYD and BMW factories will start production soon, contributing to economic growth, and that the construction sector will see a positive trend thanks to housing and family subsidies.
