The Almásy Mansion in Gyula (southeastern Hungary) will celebrate its eighth birthday with a festival over the weekend that already started on Friday. The program includes a dachshund meeting, tasting of reform-era coffee specialties, and a guided tour, according to a statement by the Erkel Ferenc Nonprofit Ltd., which also runs the castle.
Every year, the programs are designed to tell something new about the building, its history, and the people who lived there, the statement quoted Ildikó Fekete-Dombi, managing director of the Erkel Ferenc Foundation, as saying. The event started with a whispering guided tour on Friday, which is about the life of servants who were unnoticed by the lords.
Among the activities, visitors should not miss the dachshund meeting on Saturday, which will be free of charge. Each year, the event attracts more and more dachshund owners and interested visitors, said the managing director. On Saturday, there will also be a parade, beauty pageant, and a running race for dachshunds. Kindergarten and primary school children will be given a guided tour by Gróf Tacskó Dénes (Count Dénes Dachshund), the castle’s mascot.
On Friday, the program also commemorated the anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution of 1848. This year, the atmosphere of the reform and revolutionary cafés has been evoked with coffee specialties from the era, with the help of barista György Vigyikán. Those who pre-register will be able to taste various specialties from the era, and learn coffee tasting and delicious coffee recipes to make at home.
A detailed program of the festival is available on the mansion’s website.
