The big telecoms operators will not raise their prices until July 1 next year, while those that have already raised their prices this year will bring them back to the level of January 1, the Prime Minister revealed on Wednesday, adding that this applies to TV, internet, and mobile phone services.
Viktor Orbán said the most important item on the agenda of Wednesday’s cabinet meeting was the continuation of price cuts.
The Minister for National Economy presented a report on the negotiations with telecoms companies, and “there are results, we have reached agreements,”
he said.
“In the case of food, we have been successful in dealing with the price rises, we have managed to break down the prices of 30 basic foodstuffs, and now it is the turn of banking and telecommunications services, because the prices of these have also risen significantly in the last period,” he pointed out.
“The banks should be gearing up, we will continue to break prices,” the Prime Minister said.
Shortly before that day, the major telecoms operators announced one after the other that they would voluntarily lower or not raise their prices in response to a call from the Ministry for National Economy. Magyar Telekom said in a statement that
they will not implement the 3.7 percent inflation-linked tariff adjustment for consumers and will not increase the monthly tariffs of consumers’ existing packages until at least the end of the first half of 2026.
The company will also introduce more flexible combinations of elements in its mobile phone portfolio.
They noted that monthly tariffs will therefore remain unchanged after April 1, 2025, for monthly tariff customers covered by the General Terms and Conditions (GTC).
The telecoms companies of the 4iG Group will implement voluntary reductions for residential tariffs affected by the inflation-linked tariff adjustment. The companies belonging to the One brand (One Magyarország Zrt., DIGI Távközlési és Szolgáltató Kft., AH Média Kereskedelmi Zrt.) will refrain from introducing the 3.5 percent inflation-linked tariff adjustment for fixed internet, television, and mobile subscriptions available for residents until July 1, 2026.
Accordingly, until the summer of 2026, residential customers of the operator will be able to use most of their fixed internet, fixed, terrestrial and satellite TV services, as well as mobile services, at the prices introduced in 2024,
they said.
Yettel said it will alleviate the inflationary burden on residential customers with a time-limited discount on certain residential bills. The discount, valid for 12 months from May 1, 2025, will be equal to the monthly tariff adjustment based on the previous consumer price index of 3.7%.
Thus, the discount on the current monthly tariff will fully compensate for the amount of the inflation adjustment applied since March 5, 2025.
This discount is available to residential costumers who are using the publicly available residential billed subscription tariff packages, and who are affected by the inflationary tariff adjustment at the beginning of 2025. The discount will automatically appear on the monthly bill of the affected customers, with no need to apply separately, they added.
