Dominik Szoboszlai has been voted Liverpool FC’s Player of the Month for February in a fan vote held on the club’s official website.

Described on the site as a “tireless midfielder,” Szoboszlai won the award for the first time this season. In February, the Hungarian national team captain made seven appearances for the Reds and scored three goals. His Egyptian teammate Mohamed Salah came in second in the voting.

It was a brilliant month for all of us and also for me. I got in the rhythm where I wanted to be and I just hope to continue,”

the club’s website quoted Szoboszlai.

“It was an important month. Also we knew it before it even started that we were going to have a lot of games, so we have to get the most out of it. That was the plan and what we did, so we’re just going to keep going,” he added.

Asked what was the highlight of February for him, the 24-year-old said it was the the away Premier League clash with Manchester City, where he scored and assisted in a 2-0 win.

In the 2024-25 season, Salah has been voted by fans as the best player of the month four times (in August, October, November, December); Ryan Gravenberch (September) and Cody Gakpo (January) once each, and they have now been joined by Dominik Szoboszlai.

Meanwhile, the Carabao Cup (English Football League Cup) final was held on Sunday evening, with defending champions Liverpool losing 2-1 to Newcastle United. Szoboszlai, who missed last year’s final due to an injury, played the rest of the match.

In the final at Wembley Stadium, Newcastle dominated the first half and took the lead in the last minute with a superb header from a corner by Dan Burn. Newcastle increased their lead in the 53rd minute, with Alexander Isak firing into the bottom right corner after a header.

Liverpool could not find a counter to their aggressive and disciplined rivals in the restart, and Newcastle could have sealed the game on several occasions.

Arne Slot’s side – who lead the English League by a huge margin but was eliminated from the Champions League in the last eight on Tuesday – put all their eggs in one basket in the final minutes. In the 93rd minute, substitute Federico Chiesa scored with five minutes of extra time remaining, but the rivals held on to their lead.

Newcastle, who beat Liverpool for the first time since 2015, reached the final of the 65th edition of the League Cup for the third time in their history, and this is their first success.
