The 51-year-old world and European champion and Olympic gymnastics champion retired from the sport in 2003. The newspaper asked him for an interview on November 23rd when he announced that he was feeling ill. On November 29th, he wrote in a text message that he could not make himself available for the interview as he was already in hospital. He did not respond to another request on Monday, and in the afternoon the newspaper was informed that he was in severe condition.
Tabloid Blikk reports that according to an acquaintance of the athlete, Csollány got the disease three weeks ago, while his condition worsened a week ago.
Szilveszter got infected three weeks ago, at that time it didn’t seem that serious. A little over a week ago, his condition worsened and he had to be taken from Sopron to Budapest. There he is being treated in the intensive care unit of a hospital, and is on a ventilator. There is nothing else we can do but pray for him to get better.”
Csollány teaches acrobatics in Austria at Union Eisenstadt. According to media reports, he shared corona-sceptical views on his Facebook page.
