The Szekler Gallop, a preliminary race of the National Gallop in Szeklerland, will be held this weekend at its traditional venue, the Óriáspince hilltop in Tricisce, near Moacșa (Maksa).
The event begins on Saturday with an opening ceremony, followed by the Góbé Olympia team competition with teams from Târgu Mures (Marosvásárhely), Moacșa (Maksa), Păpăuți (Papolc), Sfântu Gheorghe (Sepsiszentgyörgy), Sovata (Szováta), and Zagon (Zágon). A children’s concert and a show jumping demonstration will follow, along with a performance by the band named Tiltott Illés (named after the famous Hungarian beat band from the 60s). Preliminary races for the Children’s Small Horse Race, Góbé Race, and Székely Race, as well as horse wrestling, will take place in the afternoon. The day will conclude with a performance by the National Equestrian Theater.
Sunday’s activities include a horsemanship competition, a performance by the Treasure Seekers folk dance troupe, a medieval military display by the Order of the Golden Griff, and a greyhound race. The Hussar Parade will be followed by the finals of the Small Hussar Parade at 5 p.m. and the finals of the Góbé Run and Székely Parade at 6 p.m.
Throughout the weekend, activities will include children’s activities, a craft fair, a petting zoo, an Incitato exhibition, horse riding by the Wild Horse Riding Club, and a demonstration by the Szekler Saber Fencing School. The event will close with a concert by the New Boy Scouts.
Seventeen settlements have entered horses and riders for the Góbé race, open to horses of any breed and sex, at least four years old. Ten Szeklerland settlements have entered horses and riders for the Szekler Gallop, a preliminary race of the National Gallop open to Hungarian-bred horses. The best riders from the Székely and Kishuszár Races will qualify for the National Gallop. The 17th National Gallop will be held on October 5-6 at the Lipica Equestrian Center in Szilvasvárad (northern Hungary).
