Suzuki’s recent production and energy efficiency upgrade at its Esztergom plant will enhance the factory’s competitiveness and strengthen Hungary’s position in the global automotive sector, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó announced on Tuesday.

Supported by a HUF 1.9 billion (cc. EUR 4.8 million) government grant, the over HUF 9 billion (cc. EUR 23 million) investment expanded the plant’s bumper, painting, and welding capacities, while advancing carbon-neutral operations.

Foreign Minister Szijjártó highlighted that

Suzuki is the only European automaker with a factory in Esztergom, supported by a local logistics hub and IT services.

He praised the involvement of Hungarian suppliers, which make up over one-third of Suzuki’s network, creating opportunities for domestic SMEs. Suzuki also retained its market leader status in new car sales in Hungary for the 21st year, with a 13-14% market share last year.

The Minister emphasized the importance of Japanese investments in Hungary, noting their role in driving high-tech innovation and economic growth.

Japanese companies form the country’s ninth largest investor group, employing nearly 30,000 people across almost 200 firms.

Minister Szijjártó added that Hungary has attracted significant eastern investments amid shifting global economic dynamics, with eastern companies now making up three of the top ten investor communities.
