Survey: Viktor Orbán Most Popular in Slovakia and Bulgaria

Hungary Today 2023.06.07.

Slovakian research institute GLOBSEC conducted a survey in eight EU countries, focusing on Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and his popularity. As it turned out, the Hungarian Prime Minister is even more popular in Bulgaria than in Hungary, Népszava reports. Furthermore, the poll also looked at the popularity of Vladimir Putin.

The survey polled citizens of Bulgaria, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Lithuania, and Latvia. Viktor Orbán was the most popular in Slovakia and Bulgaria, with a higher proportion of respondents supporting him in these countries (48%) than in Hungary (43%). Hungary was followed by Romania, where 32% of respondents had a positive opinion of the Hungarian Prime Minister.

In Poland, however, Orbán’s popularity has dropped significantly, probably due to the different approaches of the Hungarian and Polish governments to the war in Ukraine.

In Poland, Latvia, and Lithuania, the share of those who had a positive opinion of the Hungarian Prime Minister was below 20%.

At the same time, the report also highlighted that support for Orbán was higher in countries where confidence in their own governments was low.
