“Strengthening Diaspora Program” Launched for Hungarian Organizations

The call for applications for the Strengthening Diaspora Program was published on Wednesday, for which Hungarian organizations in the diaspora can submit applications until May 5, the State Secretary for National Policy of the Prime Minister’s Office announced in a video posted on his Facebook page.

Lőrinc Nacsa said that this year, the government will again provide HUF 500 million (EUR 1.2 million) in support for the operation, development, and equipment procurement of Hungarian organizations operating in the diaspora, as well as for the implementation of their programs and events. Details of the call are available on the websites www.kulhonimagyarok.hu and www.bgazrt.hu.

The State Secretary stressed that

the nation is one with those in the diaspora, and since 2010, special attention has been paid to the preservation and strengthening of Hungarian diaspora communities.

“Every Hungarian, wherever they live in the world, can experience that they are part of the united Hungarian nation. We have launched a number of programs to help Hungarians living far from their homeland to preserve their identity and strengthen their ties with Hungary,” Nacsa emphasized.

For example, he said that the Kőrösi Csoma Sándor program has scholarship holders serving on Hungarian islands in the diaspora, summer camps for children and young people will be held again this year, and in the second half of the week, teachers from more than 100 institutions from around the world will be welcomed in Budapest for the 8th Hungarian Schools Weekend.

Applications for the Strengthening Diaspora Program will be open from Friday, the State Secretary announced.
