The Stipendium Peregrinum is a ticket to the cream of the crop, a stepping stone to the world, said President of the Republic Katalin Novák on Tuesday at the presentation of the scholarship’s certificates in the Sándor Palace in Budapest.
The President of the Republic, the founder and patron of the program stressed that 579 young people have applied for the Stipendium Peregrinum program, launched in 2019, and 99 of them have won the scholarship, which will enable them to study at the best universities in the world. Thanks to the program, 26 new scholarship holders will start the 2023/2024 academic year, while 44 others will continue their studies at 31 universities in 9 countries.
The President recalled that the decision to launch a truly unique program in Hungary four years ago was taken to open the door to the world for the most talented students.
The scholarship program sends out the message that Hungarians have a place among the best, but Hungarian young people must be helped and given the chance to show their skills and compete with the best,” emphasized Katalin Novák. The Head of State underlined that
scholarships are open to anyone who is talented and hard-working, from better or more modest financial circumstances, from small towns, large or small families, athletes, artists or scientists alike.
The Stipendium Peregrinum is a stepping stone to the world, a ticket to the cream of the crop, the President said, adding that this means a door has been opened, but it is up to the people who enter to decide what to do with the opportunity. “By stepping through the door, you too can carve a stepping stone for your own country,” added Katalin Novák, stressing that scholarship holders can also help newcomers. She concluding by saying
We must be modest when it comes to serious matters, but we must show with confidence that Hungarians have a place among the best.
