More than 4,600 teachers’ salaries are already higher than one million forints (2,456 euros), with the highest salary for principals being 1,742,000 forints (4,278 euros), the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior announced on his Facebook page on Wednesday.
In the post, Bence Rétvári highlighted that it is important that teachers are respected both humanly and financially, and that their’ salaries are enough to keep excellent teachers in their careers and to encourage young people to take up teaching. He also emphasized the importance of principals being able to offer salaries that allow them to choose the best teacher from among several applicants, and that the children of Hungarian families are taught by teachers who feel financially valued.
With last year’s average pay rise of 32.2 percent and this year’s average of 21.2 percent, the average salary of teachers and kindergarten teachers rose to 844,000 forints (2,072 euros), Bence Rétvári said. He added that
a total of 4,606 teachers’ salaries are higher than 1 million forints (2,456 euros), of whom 1,209 are not in leading positions, 1,929 are principals and 1,468 are deputy principals.
The additional source of the 2025 salary increase for teachers and kindergarten teachers in the budget totals 339 billion forints (832.6 million euros) and next year teachers’ salaries will continue to rise at the same rate as those of graduates, the State Secretary emphasized.
In his post, Bence Rétvári thanked teachers for their persistent work and said that they would continue with the improvements because, as he said, “there is always work to be done” in education.
