On Thursday, sunny and dry weather is expected across the country as the morning fog and mist clears. Winds from the south and southeast will only pick up in the northern Transdanubian region, while temperatures could reach 22 degrees by the afternoon, reported Index.
After a mild and very dry winter, a warm spring is expected, with clear, sunny, and dry weather. Daytime highs will be between 16 and 22 degrees. Overnight lows are likely to be between -5 and +2 degrees Celsius, but colder in the northern valleys and warmer in the higher elevations. There is a possibility of breaking the record for the biggest temperature fluctuation in Hungary, posted HungaroMet on Facebook.
HungaroMet reported that daily maximum temperatures rose above 20 degrees Celsius for the first time this year. Due to the very dry air filling the Carpathian Basin and the south winds picking up in the Alpine region,
a daily high of 20.2 degrees Celsius was recorded in Fertőrákos (near the Austrian-Hungarian border) on Wednesday afternoon. This was the first time this year that the temperature exceeded 20 degrees Celsius.
Only 11.9 degrees Celsius was recorded on the shore of Lake Balaton in Siófok on Wednesday afternoon, with only Kékestető, the tallest mountain in Hungary, being colder. They added that temperatures in the dry air rise quickly due to the uninterrupted sunshine across the country, so where the overnight cooling was stronger, the daily temperature fluctuation on Wednesday was above 25 degrees. It was reported that this occurs for one or two short periods each year, typically in early spring.
They noted that the record daytime temperature in Hungary is 31.1 degrees Celsius, which was measured three years ago in Szécsény, near the Slovak border, at the end of March, during a similarly dry but a few degrees warmer period.
