Soon the public will be able to enjoy the impressive pedestrian suspension bridge, which has been named the Bridge of National Unity, reports Index.
The Hungarian government announced on its Facebook page that the Bridge of National Unity in Sátoraljaújhely (northeastern Hungary, along the Slovak border) will soon be inaugurated.
According to the government, load tests are already being carried out on the 700-meter-long pedestrian suspension bridge, connecting Szár Hill and Vár Hill. One of the longest pedestrian suspension bridges in the world was shown to the public in spectacular pictures on the government’s social media page.
In 2017, the cost of the project was estimated at HUF 2.5 billion (EUR 6.5 million), but the final sum has not yet been disclosed. At the time, the city’s mayor, Péter Szamosvölgyi, said that the bridge alone could bring in up to a million extra visitors a year, creating 100 new jobs.
As Hungary Today previously reported, visitors will be able to walk across the bridge, featuring large glass panels in the middle, by the beginning of this summer.
