For the ninth time, a large-scale event will be held in Somló to showcase the Juhfark, a native Carpathian Basin grape and wine variety. The guests of the Somló Juhfark Fest will be able to taste 31 batches of Juhfark wine from 16 wineries on October 19 at the Tornai Winery in Somlójenő.
“The unique volcanic character of Somló is best conveyed by the Juhfark, and vice versa: the varietal characteristics of the Juhfark are most perfectly expressed in Somló. The result is an inimitable wine with complex, mineral flavors,” the organizers said in a statement. As they point out, every year the winemakers of the Somló Hill gather to present their best batches to the public at a representative tasting of Juhfark. The winemakers themselves offer their products, talk about their wines, and answer questions from guests.
In addition to the guided ‘tasting tour,’ a tour to the vineyards and cellars and a workshop will be organized where participants will be able to taste the various vintages of the Tornai Winery’s Juhrafk wines in a vertical tasting.
A special bus service will run from Budapest to the Somló festival, and the ticket includes a free shuttle service from the area’s accommodation facilities, the organizers said.
