NATO allies and their African partners will conduct a joint exercise to improve counter-terrorism capabilities and cooperation. “Flintlock 2025” will take place in the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), during which the Hungarian participating personnel will mentor the Chadian unit, Honvédelem.hu reports.
The Hungarian mentoring is in line with the framework of the strategic partnership signed between Hungary and Chad in September 2024. The joint training will include tactical skills, naval operations, battlefield exercises and border-guarding operations.
The Hungarian government insists on the principle of taking help to the source of the trouble, says the portal, adding that terrorism is one of the root causes of the illegal migration that is affecting Europe, including Hungary.
Hungary is cooperating with the countries concerned through a number of initiatives around the world and is also participating in international programs aimed at curbing terrorism and illegal migration.
The Hungarian Defense Forces have participated before several times in the annual “Flintlock” joint military exercise organized by the US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) for NATO allies and their African partners. NATO aims to develop cooperation and resilience between international partners and Allied Special Forces in counter-terrorism. Over 500 troops from more than 30 countries are taking part in the two-week special operations exercise, starting at the end of April.

This year’s exercise will address global security challenges, highlighting the importance of counter-terrorism and unified action against regional instability, emphasizing and facilitating international partnership in the security environment of West and North Africa.
