Soldiers Excel with Gidrán Armored Vehicles in International Exercise

Hungary Today 2025.04.23.

The Klapka György 1st Armored Brigade of the Hungarian Defense Forces, which was offered to the European Union Battlegroup, participated in an international exercise, they announced in a Facebook post.

Lieutenant Mihály Soós, commander of the brigade, said that the 1st Rifle Battalion personnel participating in the exercise took part in a unique company-level firing drilling, during which they carried out a complex offensive operation.

“In addition to supporting fire from the Gidráns, my soldiers conducted an aerial bombardment with Carl Gustaf anti-tank missiles over the enemy in the trenches. Afterwards, the platoons of infantry fighters carried out a clearing with live ammunition and then opened a passage at the entry point by explosive demolition. Meanwhile, the sniper squadron carried out destruction of important targets and assisted with drone targeting,” Mihály Soós detailed.

The Gidrán, a 4×4 multipurpose armored vehicle, is manufactured by the Turkish Nurol Makina and reinforced with Hungarian developments.

It is a versatile vehicle equipped with a remote-controlled gun turret, night vision camera, and heavy machine gun, which ensures its survivability thanks to its blast-resistant system and special armor. Each Gidrán weighs 14 tons, measures 5.8 meters in length, 2.5 meters in width and height, and is powered by an 8,900 cc engine. It can reach speeds of up to 120 km/h and travel 700 kilometers on a single fill-up.

In total, the Hungarian army will receive 300 Gidráns as part of the Defense and Military Development Program.
