On Friday, domestic solar energy production peaked again during the quarter hour starting at 12:15 p.m. Data from the Hungarian Transmission System Operator Company (MAVIR) shows that household and industrial systems together produced 6,200 megawatts of green energy, more than ever before, said Gábor Czepek, Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, in his latest Facebook post on Tuesday.

The State Secretary explained that the output of larger solar power plants alone covered 99.8 percent of the system load during that quarter of an hour.

Domestic electricity demand was therefore met entirely from clean renewable sources, with plenty left over for export.

In recent years, huge solar energy capacities have been built in Hungary.

There are already over 300,000 solar power plants operating in our country, with a total installed capacity of nearly 8,000 megawatts. More than four-fifths of the existing capacity has been installed since 2020,”

he pointed out.

Solar panels accounted for a quarter of domestic electricity production last year, the highest proportion in the world. This rapid progress has greatly contributed to the fact that the proportion of electricity imports remained low in May, at 13.5 percent, after reaching 10 percent in April. The patriotic energy policy based on a combination of nuclear and solar energy is therefore heading in the right direction in terms of supplying consumers, the politician noted.
