As of early March, the total installed capacity of solar power plants has reached 7,831 megawatts. The country is increasingly able to meet domestic energy demand exclusively from carbon-free sources, thanks to the continuously growing solar capacity and the Paks nuclear plant, reported Világgazdaság.

On Tuesday, green energy production in Hungary reached new peaks: according to data from Mavir, electricity system operator, industrial facilities generated a higher value than ever before, 3,747 megawatts. Together with household and self-generating power plants, the total solar energy production amounted to 6,178 megawatts, announced the Ministry of Energy.

The total installed capacity of solar power plants was 7,831 megawatts as of early March. The huge capacity was first utilized in production exceeding 6,000 megawatts during Tuesday’s record-breaking day. The industrial solar power plants with a total capacity of 4,389 megawatts alone produced an amount of electricity equivalent to 84% of the current gross system load during the latest peak period.

According to previous expectations, Hungary would have reached 6,000 megawatts of installed capacity by 2030, that we had already surpassed by far last year.

A quarter of domestic electricity production in Hungary came from solar panels last year. This is the most favorable ratio in Europe. With the Paks blocks, the country is increasingly able to cover domestic needs exclusively from carbon-free sources, as it is increasingly able to export.

The number of solar power plants, including industrial ones, exceeded 300 thousand units in February.

It is expected that in March, household-sized ones, mostly operating on the roofs of family houses, will also reach this milestone on their own. As a result of the dynamic capacity expansion, domestic solar panel production may often reach new historical peaks in the coming weeks and months.
