The opposition Socialists (MSZP) would ensure that Hungarians who are caregivers for family members are entitled to pensions for their work if they come to power, a lawmaker of the party said at a press conference streamed on Facebook on Saturday.
Ildikó Borbély Bangó said the system of caregiving would be made a priority, first of all by resolving financing and other issues related to caregiving by family members. She added that remuneration for caregivers would be raised to the minimum wage, regardless if the person being cared for is a child or an elderly person.
She said Gergely Karácsony, the Socialists’ candidate for prime minister, offers a “real chance” for the elderly and pensioners by “representing the majority of society” and “eliminating the greatest injustices”.
