A four-star rating has been given to the Bihar Termálliget Spa and Beach Resort. This could make Berettyóújfalu rise in popularity, therefore becoming a tourist stronghold along the Hungarian-Romanian border, reported Világgazdaság.
Tourism is playing an increasingly important role in the life of Berettyóújfalu. The Bihar Termálliget Spa and Beach Resort has achieved a four-star rating, announced the city government at a press conference on Wednesday. István Vitányi, Member of Parliament recalled previous milestones in the facility’s history. He highlighted, that in the summer of 2023 the interior was renovated for 3.5 billion forints (EUR 8.7 million). This raised the facility’s quality enough that a year later it received the spa qualification.
Only one star is missing for the five-star qualification, and a four-star hotel is required for this,”
said the politician. He pointed out that the area is already available, on which they would like to build the new building within the foreseeable future. He highlighted that since the road between Romania and Hungary is now open due to our eastern neighbor’s accession to the Schengen Area, tourists from the neighboring country can come to the spa more easily and more often. István Vitányi explained that last year they achieved the level of attendance of the pre-Covid period (2019), attracting almost 80 thousand tourists. The new goal is 100 thousand visitors per year.
Mayor István Muraközi spoke about the fact that the people in this region have an exceptionally low life expectancy at birth. He believes that the spa and the medical services can significantly improve this bad statistic in a few years. He emphasized that they were not only able to make Berettyóújfalu a popular tourist location, but also provide a lot of jobs for the people.

The Major said, that “pensioners over 65 and families with children under 16 receive passes they can enter the spa with ten times. I can safely say that this initiative was successful, as 793 pensioners and 319 families with 555 children used this opportunity.
This year, we will support the residents from a budget of 20 million forints (EUR 50 thousand), because we believe that even more people will use the spa.”
He said that in addition to the state support, the local government helped the project progress with nearly a quarter of a billion forints of its own funds, but he claims that all this would be worthless without an appropriate professional and health care background.
Péter Zámbori, the CEO of Herpály Vagyonkezelő Kft., discussed the criteria for obtaining the four stars. He said that 73 conditions had to be met. The qualification was awarded for three years, and maintaining it will be a motivation for future improvement. The company manager reported that this January started quite strongly for the four star hotel and spa, as the number of guest nights in the city increased from 5,900 to 8,300, an increase of 70%.
