Six Hungarian Brands Debut at Milan Fashion Week

MTI-Hungary Today 2023.09.26.

This year, six Hungarian brands, Borbala, Pinetime Clothing, Unrealindustry, Kata Szegedi, Thefour, and Zsigmond, were represented under the Budapest Select umbrella brand at Milan Fashion Week.

In the framework of a strategic collaboration between the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana (CNMI) and the Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency, the opening of the CNMI Fashion Hub was attended by Borbala, Pinetime Clothing, and Unrealindustry, and within the framework of the Budapest Select collective fashion show, the spring/summer 2024 collections of Kata Szegedi, Thefour, and Zsigmond were presented at the Royal Palace.

Presenting at Milan Fashion Week is a huge opportunity for Hungarian designers, it is an effective and targeted way to increase their international visibility,”

Zsófia Jakab, CEO of Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency, noted, adding that the fact that the attention is again focused on Hungarian designers a few weeks after Budapest Central European Fashion Week supports the strengthening of Hungary’s position in the regional fashion industry, and contributes to building the country’s image.

The designers presenting at one of the world’s most prestigious fashion events “are characterized by freshness, openness to innovative solutions,

and overall they bring a new perspective to fashion, but besides the common points, each brand has a strong, distinctive brand mark, allowing Budapest Select to reach a wide audience,” said Anita Forintos-Szűcs, Deputy General Manager of the agency.

Present at the shows were some of the fashion industry’s biggest icons, such as Carlo Capasa, President of the CNMI, Suzy Menkes, former editor of VOGUE International, Sara Maino, creative consultant of Conde Nast Italia, as well as representatives of several world brands and journalists from the most important Italian fashion magazines and newspapers. The event was also broadcasted by the main Italian television station, Rai Italia.

In addition to the designers under the Budapest Select umbrella brand, Hungarian swimwear brand Pelso presented the latest pieces from the Botanical Chronicles collection in a separate event in the garden of the Four Seasons Hotel in Milan.

Fact

The strategic partnership with the CNMI, signed in 2018, and extended for another three years in 2021, aims to promote the entry of Hungarian designers on the international scene. Under the partnership, Hungarian designers can gain professional and business knowledge through an international mentoring program run jointly by the partners, and also have the opportunity to participate in Milan Fashion Week.

The Budapest Select umbrella brand created by the agency, taking into account international practices, has helped to create an even more intense overall impact through the effectiveness of a unified look, while also allowing the brands’ unique characteristics to prevail.
