According to the latest Eurostat data, 18.4 percent of the population in Hungary was at risk of poverty or social exclusion in 2022, a significant decrease from 30.6 percent in 2015, the Secretary of State for Welfare Policy of the Ministry of Interior revealed in a Facebook post on Thursday.
Attila Fülöp wrote that last year, almost 22 percent of the European Union’s population was at risk of poverty or social exclusion. The highest rates of people affected were in Romania (34.4 percent), Bulgaria (32.2 percent), Greece (26.3 percent) and Spain (26 percent).
The Secretary of State highlighted that
in Hungary, the share of jobless households with very low work intensity fell from 8.8 percent in 2015 to 6.2 percent in 2022.
He pointed out that while in 2015, 24.1 percent of the Hungarian population lived in severe material and social deprivation, by 2022, this had fallen to 9.1 percent.
