On Sunday, Miklós Soltész, the Secretary of State for Church and Nationality Relations, spoke at the inauguration of the renovated Church of the Immaculate Heart of the Virgin Mary in Pölöske, a small village in western Hungary.

The renovation, involving HUF 50M (EUR 126.5K), restored the church’s roof and exterior walls, a significant achievement given that the church was originally built during the communist era.

Mr. Soltész emphasized the critical need to uphold Christian values in today’s world, which he described as being in a severe crisis of values. He argued that the attempts to undermine Central Europe and Hungary necessitate a firm defense of Christianity.

That means standing up for Christianity, which is a thousand years old, and continuing to preserve and defend the country of King Saint Stephen,” he said.

The Secretary of State stressed that “hard words must be followed by hard deeds” to address the current challenges faced by Christian communities. He also highlighted the importance of passing on Hungarian values to future generations, noting that this responsibility extends beyond archbishops, priests, and politicians to every individual.

This commitment is vital for the well-being of children, young people, and the future of the nation. The renovation of the church in Pölöske symbolizes both a physical restoration and a reaffirmation of the village’s commitment to its Christian faith and community.
