The Minister of Construction and Transport held a press conference in Miskolc (northern Hungary) where he presented several urban development plans. “Our strategic objective is to develop the settlements and parts of the country that are on the margins in a meaningful way,” János Lázár emphasized, writes Világgazdaság.

According to the Minister, if he had to say which regions will experience an explosion of development, then the Miskolc-Nyíregyháza-Debrecen (northern and eastern Hungary) triangle will catch up with the European Union average.

The Minister of Construction and Transport pointed out that Miskolc is worth spending the money of other Hungarian taxpayers and citizens of the European Union. He added that government forces had managed to win the local elections in a basically working-class town, and that it was important to put public safety in order after that.

The people of Miskolc, the city and Borsod County need order. The mayor must also guarantee order and orderliness in the city,”

the Minister emphasized. He added that this is why they support all efforts to strengthen public space, such as the development of a sheriff system.

Lázár announced that the burned-down cave bath, which previously generated HUF 1.2 billion (EUR 2.9 million) in revenue for the city, should be reopened by June 30.

The government will provide HUF 1 billion (EUR 2.4 million) for this. He added that HUF 16 billion (EUR 38.8 million) have so far been reallocated to the renovation of Diósgyőr Castle: the castle tower will be preserved in 2025 and its thousands of square meters of land will be given a new function.

The Minister also announced the first step of 10 kilometers of state-owned roads to be renovated, at a total cost of HUF 3.5 billion, with the remaining 70 kilometers of state roads to be renovated year by year.

János Lázár pointed out that state transportation company MÁV-Volán will buy 20 new buses, of which Miskolc will get three, and the Miskolc-Tisza railway station will be renovated, with the plan to create one of the country’s largest transport hubs in front of the station.
