The 22nd Savaria Historical Carnival will take place from August 24-27. Savaria is the Roman name of the western Hungarian city of Szombathely, which celebrates the ancient traditions and history of the city founded by the Romans and the preservation of its historical heritage.
Twenty-five venues will host 300 events, with legionary troops of Roman warriors and soldiers, fearless gladiators, medieval knights, and Hungarian traditionalists in historical costumes, who will entertain visitors and teach them the way of life and battles of their ancestors.
The biggest attraction of the carnival is the annual torchlight parade on Friday and Saturday evenings, when hundreds of costumed performers parade through the streets of the city center. The organizers estimate that the four-day-long event will draw between 100-120,000 spectators.
The popular program offers a wide range of rock, folk, and popular music concerts, activities, and entertainment for children, theatrical plays, acrobatic and artistic performances, gastronomic events, and much more.
A magical world awaits little children in the adventure park of Kalandváros with fairy tales, puppet shows, stilt walkers, mini carnival parades, and little hussars.
Visitors can also enjoy the Street of Wines and the Old Town Market.
