Roland Sallai scored his first goal for Galatasaray in the 14th round of the Turkish top-flight football championship Süper Lig on Sunday, reports Nemzeti Sport.
The Hungarian national team player found himself in a shooting position in the 47th minute after Victor Osimhen’s slide and fired a perfect right-footed shot into the far corner. His side took a 2-1 lead at home to Eyüpspor, but could not win the game as the visiting team later equalized.
As reported by Hungary Today, Roland Sallai joined the Istanbul club back in September. The 27-year-old previously played for German club SC Freiburg, where his contract was due to expire next year. Galatasaray bought him for a “bargain” price of EUR 6 million.
Transfermakt puts his market value at EUR 14 million, making him the third most valuable Hungarian player behind Dominik Szoboszlai (Liverpool, EUR 75 million) and Milos Kerkez (Bournemouth, EUR 20 million).
When Sallai joined the team, many fans of the Turkish club resented the fact that he was given the number 7 jersey of big favourite Kerem Aktürkoğlu.
Aktürkoğlu played in the Turkish top league team between 2020-2024, but he was sold to Benfica for EUR 12 million in early September. Sallai has had a challenging task since inheriting the number 7 jersey, as fans have compared him to Aktürkoglu from the start. But with his newly scored goal, many have certainly started to recognize his worth.
