Rheinmetall, Hungary’s largest military partner, has unveiled a groundbreaking armored vehicle, the Keiler Next Generation (NG), reports Mandiner. This new technical vehicle, showcased in a dramatic YouTube video, is designed for both mine clearance and obstacle removal on the battlefield.

Rheinmetall, headquartered in Zalaegerszeg (western Hungary), is a key player in Hungary’s defense industry. The Keiler NG represents a significant advancement from its predecessors, which began with the conversion of US M48 Patton tanks into mine clearance vehicles in the late 1990s. The latest model builds on the Kodiak technical vehicle developed jointly by Rheinmetall and RUAG and is powered by the Krauss-Maffei Wegmann Leopard 2 chassis.

The Keiler NG is equipped to create a 9-meter wide and 160-meter long corridor through minefields, allowing almost any combat vehicle to pass.

It features an explosive cable charge for clearing mines and a mine countermeasure system that uses magnetic signals to detonate mines in front of the vehicle. If needed, it can also use front-mounted levers to create a safe path through obstacles.

While Rheinmetall is Hungary’s most significant defense partner, it remains unclear if the Keiler NG will be produced or deployed in Hungary. The new vehicle highlights Rheinmetall’s ongoing commitment to advancing military technology in collaboration with the Hungarian government.
