Residents of Debrecen Zoo Also Receive Christmas Presents

Hungary Today 2022.12.28.

Our four-legged friends were also able to enjoy Christmas in Debrecen (northeastern Hungary). It has become a tradition at the city’s zoo to surprise the zoo residents with treats on the first day after the holidays.

This delights both animals and humans, as visitors can watch these special feedings, and there was even a “parents’ night” for the animals’ “adoptive parents” on the terrace in front of the giraffe house.

The monkeys received monkey-friendly gingerbread cookies and a pine tree-shaped activity toy. They were delighted with the gift, from which they could pick banana rings.

Fruits and vegetables decorated the Christmas tree made of hay, which was given to the hippo couple Linda and Sigfrid.

At the “Christmas of the Animals” all residents were treated to Christmas treats served at the feedings.

Debrecen Zoo closed a successful 2022 with 171,000 visitors, which is the highest number in the last 20 years, the number of visitors having gradually increased over the last eight years. In addition, the collections of the zoo and botanical garden have grown significantly. We now have the most extensive collection ever,” said Sándor Gergely Nagy, managing director of the zoo.

Next year, the zoo will be 65 years old and is preparing for this anniversary with a number of new attractions and surprises.
