Renewal of Vocational Training a Success Story

MTI-Hungary Today 2023.04.25.

The government is continuously renewing vocational education and training, and the number of people enrolling in vocational education and training has been increasing for years, and the students’ academic results are also improving, the Prime Minister said in his opening speech at the 16th Profession Star Festival (Szakma Sztár Fesztivál) in Budapest on Monday.

Viktor Orbán stressed at the event organized by the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry that six out of every ten pupils leaving primary school continue their studies in vocational education, and the most popular type of school is the technical institution.

He added that the introduction of dual training had also proved useful, both for businesses and for the country’s overall performance and economic growth. And the increase in the number of applicants and the improved academic results show that the new system is working for students and their families, he underlined.

The Prime Minister also said that those who want to go further could also get a middle management qualification along with a technician qualification. An important and major achievement of the vocational education and training system is that five-year graduates have a significant advantage when it comes to further study in higher education, he said.

Viktor Orbán stressed that there are some qualities that students, teachers and prime ministers should have in common. According to him, one of these is curiosity, another is creativity, problem solving and the third is perseverance. He said that the fourth important skill is cooperation, because without family and colleagues, you cannot create great things. The Prime Minister stressed that this is the key to success.

He said that although it is common in Hungarian public life to downgrade and criticize schools and the school system – which could of course be better and could still be improved – it should not be underestimated either. At the same time, he stressed that

the success of Hungarian students at home and internationally is also a tribute to Hungarian education, and special credit for this goes to their teachers, who spare no time and effort to pave the way for their students.

Hungary will only prosper if everyone works here and everyone works well, the Prime Minister stated. He told the students that they did not have to leave, because in the Carpathian Basin, Western and Eastern companies are present together with Hungarian businesses. With Hungarian know-how, organizational skills and will, we are able to build a country where it is good to live, work, raise a family and bring up children, and where it will be good for you too, Viktor Orbán emphasized.

He added that if you look and travel around the world – which is a good thing – it is always worth coming home. “Only here you are at home, only this is your homeland”, he said, stressing that this is where you have to thrive, this is the only place where there is a Hungarian future.

Finally, Viktor Orbán thanked all the teachers, mentors and experts working in Hungarian vocational education and training with a pure heart and dedication for their sacrificial work. He wished the students, their teachers and their families every success.
