On Thursday, a team from the Hungarian Reformed Church Aid (MRSZ) set off for Boroșneu Mare (Nagyborosnyó) in Covasna County, Romania, with two tons of humanitarian aid supplies and water pumps to help the community across the border defend against flooding and to support the feeding of displaced families.

According to a statement released by the charity service, the volunteer team will be followed by the MRSZ Search and Rescue Team, who will be able to provide professional assistance in both rescue and damage mitigation with their equipment. The charity service has also announced a fundraising campaign for those affected by the floods in Transylvania, they added.

Heavy rains have been threatening Transylvania with severe flooding for weeks.

A significant part of the salt mine in Praid (Parajd) has filled with water, and since then, the surrounding settlements have also been endangered by the huge amount of water.

They emphasized that the MRSZ has been in contact with the Transylvanian Reformed Church District for days so that the organization can immediately dispatch its aid deliveries and volunteer team if necessary. Based on the information provided, the floods have now inundated several settlements, hence on Thursday, the first team of the Hungarian Reformed Church Aid set off for Boroșneu Mare in Covasna County.

In cooperation with local rescue services and congregations, the charity is providing two tons of food and hygiene products to families forced to leave their homes, and on Thursday, they delivered high-performance water pumps and hoses to the site to immediately provide assistance in rescue operations.

In consultation with local rescue services, the floodwaters are expected to recede by Monday, and larger-scale damage mitigation efforts can begin. To this end, members of the Hungarian Reformed Church Aid’s Search and Rescue Team will set off for the village in Covasna County early Monday morning, together with a team of volunteers from the ‘Tiszáninnen’ Reformed Church District.

Due to the flood situation in Transylvania, the Hungarian Reformed Church Aid is announcing a nationwide fundraising campaign. Donations can be made by calling the 1358 donation line, via their website, or by bank transfer.
