Art Weekend Budapest (AWB) will take place in the capital for the first time between December 1 and 3, reports Magyar Nemzet.

The main aim of the program is to give a broader insight into the contemporary art scene in Budapest by focusing on the year-end fairs of Budapest’s galleries. Participants will include commercial galleries, art galleries and bank exhibition spaces, which can be visited by the general public on site, on guided tours or independently and free of charge.

The series of programs will primarily serve the development and sustainability of the Hungarian visual arts sector, while focusing attention on the artists and exhibition spaces themselves.

“We are delighted that so many galleries and special exhibition spaces have joined our event, as it allows us to showcase the versatility and vitality of contemporary art in Hungary. Our programs are not only for collectors or prospective collectors, but for all those who want to learn about and get an idea of contemporary art, who want to slow down a bit before the end of the year and the holidays, or who just want to be inspired,” said Eszter Őry, professional manager of the event’s organizer, ArtNESZ Fine Arts Agency.

Twice a day, in several locations, guided tours will be offered under the name ARTtour, while at the Cross-ARTtour events, co-artists such as fashion designers, film directors, composers, dancers will accompany the art walk and share their thoughts and feelings about the exhibited works.

The program will include studio visits, talks with the artists, a tattoo day and an art fair linked to one of the exhibitions.

The AWB is part of the international Art Weekend events and, as a co-event with Gallery Weekend Budapest, aims to further enhance the understanding and promotion of contemporary art.
