In April, the Bridge of National Unity will be completed near Sátoraljaújhely (eastern Hungary), connecting Szár and Vár Hills. The cable-stayed bridge is over 700 meters long and will be held up by six cable ropes.
Hungary can write itself into the record books, as reported by Magyar Nemzet based on a Világgazdaság report. The Bridge of National Unity, designed to be a tourist attraction, is nearing completion.
Utilizing this technology, it is not only the longest bridge of its kind in Hungary, but also in the world.
The plan for the Bridge of National Unity was ready years ago, with the aim of setting a world record for the rope bridge in Sátoraljaújhely, which has a population of 14,000. Initially, it seemed like an achievable feat, but then unexpected competition emerged from the Czech Republic. The original plans for the bridge in Dolni Morava were to be longer than its Hungarian counterpart, creating doubts about Hungary’s potential world record.
However, it was later revealed that the Czech engineers had included the fixed, double-sided ground walkway of the bridge in the total length.
The Bridge of National Unity, featuring large glass panels in the middle, is expected to be completed by April, with visitors able to walk across it by the beginning of summer.
