Following his injury, Péter Gulácsi returned to the Bundesliga after sixteen months in the starting line-up of RB Leipzig, while full-back Willi Orbán also made his return after five months. Leipzig won 2-0 at home against Union Berlin, who fielded András Schäfer, on Sunday, as reported by Magyar Nemzet.
Gulácsi suffered a torn knee tendon in a Champions League match against Scottish club Celtic Glasgow on October 5, 2022, and before his severe injury, he defended in a 4-0 win against Bochum in the Bundesliga on October 1. After his recovery, he was only given chances by head coach Marco Rose in two German Cup matches and one Champions League match (without stakes) in the autumn.
During his recovery, Janis Blaswich replaced him and despite excellent defending, his form started to deteriorate towards the end of the autumn season. Rose was considering a replacement, predicting that if the team wins and our fellow countryman defends well, he will stay in his position.
The match against Union Berlin ended up with Leipzig winning 2-0.
Another Hungarian-born member of the team, Willi Orbán, said that “the start of the year was not easy for us, but we always knew what we were capable of and what we had to do against such unpleasant rivals.” He expressed his gratitude for the return of Péter Gulácsi and, assessing the team’s performance, added that
we gave a very mature performance, made few mistakes, dominated the game and deserved to get the three points.”
Captain Willi Orban:
️ “It wasn’t an easy time for us after the start of the new year, but we were always aware of what we could do and we also knew what we had to do against Union Berlin.
We played a good game and deserved to win. This is how we have to continue now!”… pic.twitter.com/nIioddHtgI

Péter Gulácsi told SNTV that they stayed focused throughout in what was a very important match for them. The goalkeeper also said that Leipzig played mature football, kept control of the match, and could have won by a greater score.
I am very happy to be back in the Bundesliga after such a long time.
I have defended in the Champions League and German Cup before, but the Bundesliga has a special meaning for me. I am happy to be back, happy to win. The team played well and made my job easier,” he concluded.
RB Leipzig is currently placed fifth in the table.
