This summer, the Rákóczi Association will host 18,000 young people, most of them at the Rákóczi camp site in Sátoraljaújhely (northern Hungary, near the Slovak border), said the president of the Rákóczi Association on Sunday evening at the opening of the 2nd All-Hungarian Native Language Camp.

Csongor Csáky announced that over 30 camps will be held during the summer, most of them in Sátoraljaújhely. He emphasized that 900 elementary school students from 100 towns in 17 countries are participating in the native language camp that began on Sunday, all of whom are connected by the fact that they speak Hungarian.

The president pointed out that in addition to children from Transylvania, Slovakia, Vojvodina, and Transcarpathia, many also came from the diaspora, with students arriving from several European countries as well as the United States, Australia, Canada, and Israel.

The association president pointed out that the participants in the native language camps are not only Hungarian, but also attend Hungarian schools. He said that parents deserve thanks for enrolling their children in such institutions. He added that many students living in the diaspora learn Hungarian in Sunday schools, scout groups, or religious communities.

The aim of the native language camp, that lasts until Friday, is to bring  students together from the diaspora in a Hungarian-language environment and to strengthen their connection to the Hungarian language and culture through their experiences and memories at the camp.

Participants can look forward to a varied program, including cultural and sports activities, excursions in the Zemplén Mountains, craft workshops, as well as lectures and interactive sessions aimed at promoting the mother tongue, all as part of experience-based learning and community building.
