Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated Viktor Orbán for his victory in the 2022 Hungarian parliamentary election, Russian news agency TASS writes. Putin, who is currently waging a war in Ukraine, was the second to congratulate Orbán after Matteo Salvini, leader of Italy’s right-wing populist League party.

The Russian president expressed his hopes that despite the “difficult international situation,” the two countries’ partnership will be in line with the interests of the Hungarian and Russian public.

It is worth noting that in his victory speech, Orbán brought up Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as someone who “ganged up” on his administration.

This victory will be remembered for the rest of our lives because so many people ganged up on us, including the left at home, the international left everywhere, the bureaucrats in Brussels, all the funds and organizations of the Soros empire, the foreign media, and in the end even the Ukrainian president.”
