Protestant Pastors in Western Romania Receive New Service Vehicles with Hungarian State Support

MTI-Hungary Today 2024.02.09.

According to a report by the Maszol.ro news site, pastors from the Reformed Diocese of Királyhágómellék (Piatra Craiului), who serve in the dispersed areas of the region, received service vehicles on Thursday in Nagyvárad (Oradea), with support from the Hungarian government.

The seven vehicles, intended to aid the diocese in visiting small villages and transporting congregants to church services, were purchased with the financial support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Two vehicles each were delivered to the counties of Temes (Timis), Arad, and Bihar (Bihor), with one vehicle delivered to Máramaros (Maramures).

In his homily, Bishop Szabolcs János Bogdán said that “God has given us the tools for service,” adding that

the vehicles will help the outreach ministry to bring the Word of God to every settlement. “(The vehicles) fill a huge void,” he concluded.

Deputy Secretary of State Péter Kiss-Parciu emphasized that the vehicles would contribute to the preservation of Hungarian identity and culture. He recalled that “in turbulent times, our Christianity defended our Hungarian identity and our Hungarian identity defended Christianity.” He added that even in the midst of today’s uncertainty, it is important for Hungarians to cling to each other and preserve their faith.

In the first phase, seven new cars will be handed over, but they are already working on a second phase of the project in order to provide seven more cars for the pastors of the dispersed settlements.

The cars are distributed in order of priority according to need, and can each carry seven people, allowing pastors to transport congregants to services and are cost-effectively equipped with two fuel tanks (petrol and LPG).

The vehicles were purchased for EUR 17,000 each. As per the terms of the tender, the vehicles will be owned by the diocese and will be assigned to each congregation when put into use.
