Protecting Traditional Values is Essential in These Times of Crisis, MEP Says

MTI-Hungary Today 2023.09.19.

The preservation and strengthening of the unity of the peoples of Central Europe is crucial for the protection of their values and interests, said Kinga Gál MEP, member of the EP Committee on Foreign Affairs, in Dunajská Streda (Dunaszerdahely), Slovakia, at a panel discussion of the Christian Europe public forum.

At the forum, organized by the Pázmáneum Civic Association, the MEP spoke about the importance of defending traditional values and strengthening Hungarian representation in the upcoming parliamentary elections in Slovakia. Kinga Gál also highlighted the importance of uniting the nations of Central Europe. She said that in these times,

when the values that we take for granted are being questioned in the world, when the European mainstream is constantly eroding these values, it is very important to say that we do rely on the values of family, community, homeland, and God.

She added that we can build on them, because these are the values that will keep us and our children alive.

She pointed out that in a relatively short period of time, current generations have been and are still being subjected to hardships such as the economic crisis, the Covid period, war, and inflation. All of these have a disorientating effect, and it is therefore very important to strengthen people’s sense of security, and that security is provided by traditional values such as family, she continued.

Gál also spoke about the strength of a community in the context of the upcoming early parliamentary elections in Slovakia. She stressed that it is very important that the interests of the Hungarian minority in Slovakia are represented, and that this power is maintained, because no one is more capable of representing the interests of the Hungarian minority than the Hungarian minority itself.

“We need to be present at all levels of decision-making in order to ensure that the interests of the Hungarian community prevail,”

Gál noted.

Speaking about the Central European cooperation, the MEP called the V4 cooperation a key opportunity for interest representation. She said that in view of the migratory pressure on the region and in the context of defending our values, we can keep Europe the way we like it if we have Central European unity. “If there is united representation, the voice is different, it is more powerful,” Gál concluded.
