Unilever Hungary announced on Wednesday that it will open a new plant at its Nyírbátor (northeastern Hungary) site with government support to produce products from several popular beauty brands, mainly deodorants, for the domestic and regional markets.
Unilever will bring a new product category and manufacturing activities of world-renowned beauty brands to Hungary, writes Világgazdaság.
The production of aerosol deodorants under the Axe, Rexona, and Dove brands will start in Hungary in the near future.
The new plant will be built at the company’s site in Nyírbátor, in the immediate vicinity of the household chemicals factory, also producing Domestos, Flóraszept, Szavo, and OMO products (cleaning products and detergent), among others.
The investment is worth nearly EUR 50 million and is being carried out with a 20 percent subsidy from the Hungarian state. In addition, the self-financed machinery lines will cost a further EUR 25 million.
The launch of the investment was announced by Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Tamás Ács, Managing Director of Unilever Hungary, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Budapest.
The new plant, which will create nearly 100 jobs, will have three production lines and will produce 150 million bottles of deodorant a year.
This will make the Nyírbátor unit the fourth largest of its kind in Unilever’s global network. It is planned that 92 percent of production will be exported, covering the domestic market and supplying the Czech Republic, Romania, Poland, Slovakia, Ukraine, and Greece. Construction started this autumn and production is expected to start in the first half of 2026.
“We are proud that Unilever has chosen to invest in a site in Hungary,” stressed the Managing Director of Unilever Hungary. According to him, Nyírbátor was a great choice for several reasons: the skilled workforce, the favorable location, Unilever’s existing household chemicals factory, and the outstanding business results and significant experience gained here will be key to the success of the plant.
