Under as yet unclear circumstances, shots were fired in the immediate vicinity of Donald Trump on Sunday afternoon local time, reports Világgazdaság. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán reacted to the assassination attempt on his X page.

The campaign staff of the Republican presidential candidate has issued a brief statement disclosing the second assassination attempt. As is known, the first armed attack against Donald Trump took place on July 13, when the former US President was wounded in the ear.

This time, it is known that Donald Trump is safe.

No further details were released by Steven Cheung, Trump’s campaign spokesman. CNN reports that the politician was playing golf at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, and the course was immediately closed following the incident.

The United States Secret Service informed X that it is cooperating with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office in its investigation of the attack on Trump. The service noted that the incident occurred shortly before 2 p.m. local time.

Donald Trump’s eldest son Donald Trump Jr. posted a much more detailed statement on social media. He confirmed that shots had been fired at Trump’s golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida. He also reported that an AK-47 had been found in the bushes, according to local law enforcement. He stressed that Trump is safe and the suspect has reportedly been apprehended.

This was later confirmed by unnamed sources to US newspapers. The same sources also claimed that secret service agents opened fire on the perpetrator. According to the information available, a gunman was trying to shoot Donald Trump, therefore it is clear that a second assassination attempt in two months has taken place.

Many politicians and world leaders reacted quickly, expressing shock and condemnation at the incident. Hungarian Prime Minister, Viktor Orbán, has also sent a message to President Trump. He wrote:

It is clear that President Trump’s life is in danger, until his victory. We are praying for you, Mr. President!”

Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó also expressed his thoughts on his Facebook page: “The campaign against politicians and governments fighting against migration has gained new momentum. Donald Trump is to be assassinated, Matteo Salvini is to be jailed for more than half a decade for defending his country against illegal migrants, and Hungary is being fined a huge amount of money by Brussels for defending our borders and not allowing migrants to be resettled in our country.  But in the face of pressure, physical, legal and financial threats, we continue to send a message to the liberal mainstream: NO MIGRATION!,” he emphasized.
