Prices of Both Fuel Types Continue to Decline

According to a recent report by holtankoljak.hu, fuel prices continue to decline, reports Világgazdaság.

The fuel price monitoring blog indicates that the wholesale price of petrol and diesel both will decrease by HUF 3 gross.

As a result, a general price reduction is expected, with the purchase prices of both types of fuel dropping. The projected average prices at the pump mid-week are as follows:

95 petrol: HUF 644 (EUR 1.64)
Diesel: HUF 630 (EUR 1.61)

The current prices stand at HUF 647 (EUR 1.65) and HUF 633 (EUR 1.62) per liter, respectively, remaining unchanged until the new prices come into effect at midnight on Tuesday. It is worth noting that these are average prices, and actual retail prices, typically lower, may vary.

However, fuel tends to be around HUF 50 more expensive per liter near motorways.

So far this year, from January to the present, the wholesale price of petrol has increased by 105 cents per liter, and diesel by 56 cents. However, 41 cents of this increase can be attributed to the mandatory excise duty hike in January. Excluding this, there has been an increase of HUF 64 and 15 for petrol and diesel, respectively. Following an increase of around HUF 60-100 per liter, the average 50-liter tank of petrol now costs HUF 3,000-5,000 more than in December last year.

Fuel retailers are moving away from the fuel price freeze. There have been murmurs in recent weeks about potential government intervention in the fuel market due to average domestic prices surpassing the regional average.
