Prestigious Sports Magazine Recognizes Goalkeeper Gulácsi’s Outstanding Performance

Hungary Today 2024.10.01.

For the third time in five match days, Péter Gulácsi has been named in Kicker‘s dream squad for the current Bundesliga season after saving a penalty in his team RB Leipzig’s match on Saturday, Magyar Nemzet reports.

The Hungarian RB Leipzig goalkeeper kept a clean sheet against Augsburg (4-0) and also saved a penalty – no wonder he was voted best goalkeeper of the day. Gulácsi received a grade of 1.5 from Kicker (the top grade is 1).

“It has been a long time since I saved a penalty. I can still remember the Champions League, but it has been a lot longer in the Bundesliga.

I am glad I was able to help the team at that moment. We lost control a little at that stage of the game. Overall, it was a game that we enjoyed.

(…) When I saved the penalty, I decided in favor of a corner early on and was able to save the ball perfectly. We were active from the first minute today and created a lot of chances. It was particularly important that three of our attacking players scored today. That makes me very happy,” RB Leipzig’s website quotes the goalkeeper as saying.

The reward for the good performance was not only the three points, which his team took with aplomb, but also another individual honor: Péter Gulácsi was once again voted one of the eleven best players of the weekend by Kicker.

The 34-year-old goalkeeper was included in the German journal’s dream squad for the third time in five match days, having already been voted the best goalkeeper in the Bundesliga after the games against Leverkusen and St. Pauli. Leipzig have now gone three games without conceding a goal in Germany’s top flight.
