During a recent White House press conference U.S. President Donald Trump has disclosed to reporters that he has asked the Hungarian Prime Minister for his opinion regarding the chances of Ukraine winning against Russia on the battlefield.
“I asked a question from a very very smart man, that some people like and some people do not like. Viktor Orbán, from Hungary. He is in the same area and knows the two countries very well. I said, ‘can Russia be beaten by Ukraine?’ He looked at me like ‘what a stupid question.’ He said Russia is a massive country, and they fight wars, that is what they do. He said
China will beat you with trade, Russia beats you with war’.
That was a very interesting statement,” said President Trump.
President Trump has met Prime Minister Viktor Orbán during his first term in Washington, and later as a presidential candidate at his private residence in Mar-a-Lago in Florida. The two are said to have a cordial relationship. Nevertheless, there have been no visits in either direction ever since Mr. Trump starting his second term this year, neither has Hungary received a new U.S. Ambassador since the bitter departure of Joe Biden appointed Ambassador David Pressman. Hungary Today has asked the U.S. Embassy in Budapest for an interview with Charge d’Affaires Robert Palladino to discuss these matter, we are still awaiting a positive reply.
