No one and nothing can come before the protection of children, as they are a blessing for the nation, the country, the family, and for all created human beings, the President of Hungary stressed at the opening of the Child Protection Conference of the Csongrád-Csanád County Government Office in Szeged on Thursday.
Tamás Sulyok stressed that Hungarians are a family-oriented nation, and children are the most precious treasures of the family. “They are the guarantee of the survival of the Hungarian nation, they will follow in our footsteps, they will continue our work and hopefully they will correct our mistakes,” he added.

He said: “We cannot set a higher goal than to ensure that every child has a protective and inspiring environment that gives them a happy experience and helps them to become happy and balanced adults.”
In his opinion,
protecting children goes beyond national interests and caring for children and protecting them from harm is the most basic human concern.
“Child protection is a community matter, a matter for our community,” Mr. Sulyok underlined, adding that no one can shirk the responsibility of child protection, as children need models and examples to follow.
Therefore, he stressed, it is the responsibility of every adult person to set the right examples and act as a good role model. “We need good words, we need strategies and methods developed by excellent professionals, but words, strategies, and methods are worthless without good examples,” the President noted.
President Sulyok called the work of the dedicated professionals, helpers, and employees of child protection an indispensable element, and said that it is impossible to put into words how important the service they provide every day is.

László Péter Salgó, government commissioner, said that the Government Office has been organizing child protection conferences since 2017, and
this year they have created a three-day child protection event, ending with a charity run, the Ágota Run, on Saturday to support young people in child protection care.
It will be the biggest outdoor sports event in Szeged, he added.
In his welcome speech, Bishop László Kiss-Rigó stressed that in Hungary today there is perfect cooperation between the state and the church in the implementation of social-charitable goals. He added that at the same time, civil organizations and individuals are also needed for this. He noted that child protection is not just about good will, but also requires serious expertise and professional knowledge.
