“An important condition for community renewal is that we are united with each other and with ourselves, so that we can experience the unity of the nation beyond its borders,” said President Tamás Sulyok, on Monday in Sânzieni (Kézdiszentlélek) after Holy Mass.

Mr. Sulyok emphasized that he personally assured residents that even as this region is experiencing devastating floods, the people here can count on Hungary. The President added that he is joining the widespread cooperation he has seen among the Szekler people and the people of Transylvania, and that he is supporting the Hungarian Ecumenical Aid Organization’s efforts to alleviate flood damage with a donation.

Tamás Sulyok pointed out that for him, the feast of Pentecost has always been a powerful expression of unity. This experience of unity can be felt every year on Pentecost Saturday, when Hungarians from around the world traditionally gather in Șumuleu Ciuc (Csíksomlyó).

“Unity and rebirth are the gifts of Pentecost,” the head of state noted, adding that he believes that all this depends on us.

The Holy Spirit helps us overcome difficult times and find joy, peace, and love for life. And we can always count on each other in this,”

he emphasized.

The President conveyed the good wishes and greetings of millions of Hungarians and expressed his joy that so many young people and children were participating in the Holy Mass.

On Monday, Sulyok unveiled the wooden memorial plaque made by woodcarver Antal Balázs in Nyergestető.

At the ceremony, the head of state recalled that this was his second visit to Piatra Niergeș (Nyergestető), a symbolic site for Hungarians.

He added that, on behalf of all Hungarians, he would like to express the feeling and belief that the example set by the heroes speaks to all of us.“May they be glorified forever, as long as Hungarians live,” he emphasized.

On Monday, he traveled to Ilieni (Illyefalva), where he visited the center of the Christian Youth and Diaconal Foundation and laid flowers at the statue of Mór Jókai, one of the most important Hungarian novelists of the 19th century, who was born 200 years ago.
