President Erdoğan Visits Budapest for High-Level Cooperation Talks

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has arrived in Budapest. The Turkish President is visiting the capital to attend the meeting of the Hungarian-Turkish High Level Strategic Cooperation Council. He is accompanied by First Lady Emine Erdoğan.

The Turkish Head of State was greeted by President Katalin Novák at Heroes’ Square, where the First World War Heroes’ Memorial was wreathed alongside a military salute. During the ceremony, which only lasted 20 minutes, President Erdoğan greeted the soldiers of the ceremonial unit in Hungarian.

 

 

The two presidents held a private meeting at the Sándor Palace. During the discussion, President Novák stressed that

Türkiye is a key country for Hungary in terms of stopping illegal migration and energy security,

but it also has an important role in the Ukrainian war and the Middle East conflict.

Both presidents expressed their gratitude on the centenary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. They welcomed the signing of 17 agreements during the Turkish President’s visit to Hungary, including the signing of a key strategic partnership agreement between the two countries.

After meeting with several Hungarian government representatives, Mr. Erdoğan will hold talks with Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, then sign documents and make a press statement.

During the visit, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó held talks with Turkish ministers of energy, industry, and trade. The ministers signed five documents related to natural gas purchases, the development of renewable energies (especially hydrogen), infrastructure, media, and cultural cooperation.

About the agreements, Mr. Szijjártó said that “while the European Union is facing a serious energy crisis,

Hungary’s energy supply is stable

because it buys energy from reliable partners and receives it through trustworthy channels.”

A gala evening will be held at the Palace of Arts (Müpa)

to mark the centenary of Hungarian-Turkish diplomatic relations.

According to the invitation, President Erdoğan will be accompanied by President Novák and Prime Minister Orbán.

The Turkish President and his delegation will leave the capital later in the evening. The last time he was in Budapest was on August 20 to prepare for the current discussions.
