With the help of the Hungarian government, a complete Hungarian educational structure from nursery to university level has been established in Transylvania, State Secretary János Árpád Potápi pointed out on Saturday, after the inauguration of a Roman Catholic day care center in Nyárádszereda (Miercurea Nirajului), Romania.
In his welcome speech, the state secretary in charge of policies for Hungarian communities abroad noted that the opening of the kindergarten coincided with the closing ceremony of the 22-year-old Hungarian state-supported Sapientia University in Marosváráshely (Târgu Mureș).
Thanks to the Carpathian Basin Kindergarten Development Program, now in its fourth phase, a complete Hungarian educational structure has been established and strengthened in Transylvania, Potápi said.
“It is good to see these successes. If all the achievements of the past 12 years [of the Fidesz government] were written on a single page – and I’m talking only about investments, not programs, but about completed, tangible renovations and investments – we could read a book or publication of 100,000 pages,” the state secretary argued.

The number of investments – renovations and new buildings – made in the Carpathian Basin through the kindergarten development program launched by the State Secretariat five and a half years ago, is approaching one thousand, he added. In Transylvania, 103 new kindergartens have been built and 376 renovated under the scheme, with a total investment of some HUF 33 billion.
According to Potápi, in view of the economic difficulties in the region, which are not really noticeable in Hungary, the most important thing now is to complete all the investments that have been started.
The foundation stone of the Márton Áron House, which was inaugurated on Saturday, and built in the Roman Catholic churchyard of Nyárádszereda with a Hungarian state support of HUF 205 million, was laid in February 2019. The building has two activity rooms, two bedrooms, a medical room, a kitchen, and a bathroom.
